Hawaiian Road Trip: The Big Island

Wind blows in my hair as I am shouting out the lyrics to one of my favourite songs.  I look out the window admiring the beautiful rain forest when suddenly the scenery changes and I see the crystal-clear blue pacific ocean. I continue to sing as I watch the waves crash into the molten rocks. This is the definition of paradise. We drive a little longer and again, the scenery changes. Now I am looking at lush, green fields, and admiring all the beauty this tiny island has to offer. I think to myself, “Hawaii’s big island has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth.”

We continue driving and I think back to other road trips I have been on, like driving from Canada to Mexico, Bangkok to Chiang Mai, Colorado Springs to Los Angeles and all along Australia’s east coast. Every road trip has been loads of fun and was filled with heaps of laughs, as I explored some of the coolest spaces on our planet. However, this road trip around Hawaii was hands-down my favourite.

Hawaii is the biggest island in the state of Hawaii, with eight out of the thirteen climate zones. This makes the six-hour drive super exciting due to it’s ever-changing scenery. One minute you are enjoying the waves at the black sand beach, and the next you are on top of a snow capped mountain. It has beautiful waterfalls and is also home to not one, but FIVE volcanoes two of which are still active!

Grab a delicious Kona coffee, some friends, good music and set out on thee beautiful drive. You will certainly fall in love with the island life.
